Westat @ 2022 International Congress on Nutrition
November 29, 2022
Westat staff are providing research findings to the 22nd International Congress on Nutrition, to be held in Tokyo, Japan, December 6-11, 2022. The theme is The Power of Nutrition: For the Smiles of 10 Billion People. This important conference, which is held every 4 years, takes place considering the number of nutrition issues in play, including food shortages, malnutrition, population growth, over-nutrition, diversification of dietary habits, and threats to food safety.
Westat staff members Brenda K. Brewer, Alexander Evans, Raydel Valdes Salgado and Access to Nutrition Foundation’s (ATNF’s) Nadine Nasser submitted a poster: Comparison of Observed Non-Compliance with the WHO Code Across Seven International Studies (Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Nigeria, Philippines, and Mexico). It will be available on the event’s virtual platform.
Westat partnered with the ATNF to conduct in-country assessments of baby food companies’ compliance of the WHO guidelines on marketing breast milk substitutes (BMS). Westat’s reports regarding the data are posted on the ATNF website.
This study’s research was also cited in the Maternal and Child Nutrition article, Global evidence of persistent violations of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes: A systematic scoping review.
